Caladium ‘Brandywine’ is known for leaves that can grow on the larger side. Their arrowhead leaves consist of vibrant magenta-red veining and green margins. You may occasionally find that their leaves display white flecks of specked detailing. New leaves often emerge green and slowly develop into the deep red they’re famous for with maturity

The caladium 'Brandywine’ belongs to the Araceae family. They originate from the tropical rainforests of South America, primarily Columbia and Brazil. They thrive in warm, humid environments 

Seasonal Dormancy

It’s important to keep in mind that caladiums go into dormancy in colder climates. Its leaves will fade and die back. This is a completely natural part of its cycle-you haven’t killed the plant! Reduce watering significantly. When the foliage dries, stop watering. Store the tuber in a cool, dark, dry place and allow the plant to rest. Resume watering in the spring and wait for new growth to emerge

    • Lighting: Bright indirect light or partial shade. Too much direct sun will scorch and burn its delicate leaves, while too little light will cause the plant to become leggy  

    • Watering: Water once top inch of soil is dry-prefers to be consistently moist (try to bottom water whenever possible to avoid those ghats!)  

    • Soil: Well-draining soil (I use a cacti / a desert mix for all my plants). They despise sitting in soggy soil, add perlite or vermiculite for aeration   

    • Environment: Native to the tropics, they require high humidity and warmth (ideally above 21°C)  

    • Toxicity: Caladiums are toxic when digested, keep away from pets and small children   

    • Top Tip: Brandywine is more sun-tolerant than many other varieties. If you’d like to boost the plants natural red pigments, move the plant into a brighter spot! Low light will produce more chlorophyll, which means, greener leaves. Excess nitrogen in fertilisers encourage green growth and reduces the red/pink variegation 

      Caladiums love humidity. Mist your plant 2 to 3 times per week. Group plants close together to create a natural humid microclimate
