'Icicle'

Caladium ‘Icicle’ is another caladium that screams elegance. Like the ‘Florida Sweetheart’. This plant also possesses leaves that are elongated and strap shaped. Crinkled and waved edging of the leaves is the standout feature here. Soft white is the baseline colour. The veining takes a backseat on this one and allows green speckled patterns to be one of the highlights, eventually blending into solid green margins. This plant thrives in partial shade, so another great addition to those ares in the house that don’t receive much light. That being said, it can tolerate the sun surprisingly well

The Caladium 'Icicle’ belongs to the Araceae family. The species has roots to the tropical rainforests of South America. They thrive in warm and humid environments 

Seasonal Dormancy

It’s important to keep in mind that caladiums go into dormancy in colder climates. Its leaves will fade and die back. This is a completely natural part of its cycle-you haven’t killed the plant! Reduce watering significantly. When the foliage dries, stop watering. Store the tuber in a cool, dark, dry place and allow the plant to rest. Resume watering in the spring and wait for new growth to emerge

    • Lighting: Thrives in full / partial shade / bright indirect light  

    • Watering: Water once top inch of soil is dry-prefers to be consistently moist (try to bottom water whenever possible to avoid those ghats!)      

    • Soil: Well-draining soil (I use a cacti / a desert mix for all my plants). They despise sitting in soggy soil, add perlite or vermiculite for aeration       

    • Environment: Native to the tropics, they require high humidity and warmth (ideally above 21°C)      

    • Toxicity: Caladiums are toxic when digested, keep away from pets and small children

    • Top Tip: Caladiums love humidity. Mist your plant 2 to 3 times per week. Group plants close together to create a natural humid microclimate
